Position: Business Rates Administrator (WSP GL Hearn)

Your Role Will Involve

  • Providing administration assistance in the operational management of a large complex client portfolio or multiple smaller portfolios under guidance from a senior colleague.
  • Verification of rates bills issued by billing authorities against data held in the internal Information Management System for properties throughout England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. Resolving queries where rates bills are not verified, which may involve assistance from a senior colleague.
  • Liaising with billing authorities to correct matters relating to occupational changes, changes to the rating list and exemptions and reliefs.
  • Ensuring all portfolio movement is actioned appropriately.
  • Obtaining information from clients and responding to queries.
  • Assisting in delivery of accurate reports to clients and senior management.
  • Meeting all KPIs as set out in Client Contracts and Service Level Agreements to agreed deadlines and to standards agreed with the Client Director and Line Manager.
  • Assisting with Client Monies tasks when appropriate.
Qualifications
  • Understanding of business rate legislation and significant case law.
  • Ability to compare rate demands to the internal Information Management System for verification and to understand discrepancies.
  • Good interpersonal skills in dealings with clients and colleagues and ability to present themselves well in meetings.
  • Good numeracy skills.
  • Basic understanding of the functions of the Client Monies Service.
  • Proficiency in desktop software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to recognise opportunities and when to refer to colleagues for rate‑saving opportunities.
  • Ability to recognise when a matter should be escalated to a more senior member of the team.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a small & wider team.
