Accounting Technician

This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional to join the NIFRS Pensions Team and play a key role in supporting the delivery of important pension remedy exercises. MCS Group are proud to be partnering with the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) in their search for an Accounting Technician to join their Pensions Team on an interim basis.

This role is ideal for an organised and analytical finance professional with strong attention to detail, who can support the accurate production of pension and pay-related data while working collaboratively within a busy public sector environment.

The Role:

Supporting the Pensions Team with the timely and accurate production of pension and pay-related data. Preparing information for submission to HSC Pension Service. Ensuring pension and pay-related information is accurate, complete and produced within required timescales. Supporting management and the wider Pensions Team with financial and administrative requirements. Maintaining accurate records and information to support pension-related processes. Working collaboratively with colleagues and operational staff to support the effective delivery of team objectives.

Contributing to wider team activities and undertaking additional duties as required. Supporting the effective delivery of the Pensions Team's objectives within a busy public sector environment.

The Person The successful candidate will demonstrate the following skills and experience:
Essential: 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above (or equivalent), including English Language and Mathematics. A minimum of 2 years' experience working within a finance environment in a medium to large organisation with pension exposure. Experience preparing journals and completing month-end reconciliations. Experience using a computerised accounting system. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to capture and analyse financial data.

Excellent attention to detail and the ability to consistently deliver high-quality work. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Strong communication skills with the ability to provide timely and accurate information. A strong customer service approach and the ability to build positive working relationships. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and accounting software packages.

Contract:

Full-time temporary assignment The role offers hybrid working, with the exact working pattern dependent on business needs. As a blue light organisation, many meetings involve operational staff and are held face to face. The Pensions Team generally works two days from home per week.
