About the Role
Our client is seeking a strategic Senior Petroleum Economist to join their team in Sandton. This role is crucial for providing economic analysis and strategic advice on exploration, development, and production projects within the Oil & Gas sector. You will be responsible for evaluating project viability, managing financial risks, and contributing to investment decisions through rigorous economic modeling and forecasting. This position offers an excellent opportunity to leverage your expertise in financial analysis and market dynamics to influence key business strategies in a challenging and rewarding industry.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and execute economic models for oil and gas projects, including NPV, IRR, and payback analysis.
- Conduct market analysis, forecasting oil and gas prices, and assessing geopolitical risks.
- Evaluate the economic feasibility of exploration, development, and acquisition opportunities.
- Provide economic input for budget planning, reserve reporting, and strategic decision-making.
- Collaborate with technical teams (geologists, engineers) to ensure accurate input data for economic evaluations.
- Prepare and present economic reports and recommendations to senior management.
- Master's degree in Economics, Finance, Petroleum Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in economic analysis within the Oil & Gas industry .
- Proficiency with economic modeling software (e.g., Aries, DSS) and advanced spreadsheet skills.
- Strong understanding of petroleum economics, fiscal regimes, and financial risk management.
- Excellent analytical, quantitative, and communication skills.
- Experience with commodity price forecasting and market analysis is essential.
