this Role
The California Public Employees’ Retirement System is seeking an Investment Officer I to support the Sustainable Investments team in integrating sustainability considerations into private markets investing. This position offers the opportunity to work across the nation’s largest public pension fund, gaining broad exposure to private equity, real estate, infrastructure, and private debt investments while contributing meaningfully to sustainability-focused investment strategies. In this role, you will engage in substantive deal work, partnering with private asset class teams on sustainability due diligence across investment opportunities.
You will review sustainability Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), run analytics to identify trends and risks, and maintain tracking processes and systems that are audit-ready. A significant portion of your responsibilities will involve publishing work, helping to shape public disclosures, board and senior leadership presentations, and other publications to ensure they are accurate, accessible, and prepared for public audiences. Beyond the core responsibilities, you will contribute to energy transition and climate solutions investing initiatives, conduct thematic research, and participate in cross-team initiatives.
This position provides meaningful responsibility early in your tenure, broad exposure across multiple asset classes, and access to a team that is invested in your professional growth and development. The position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, allowing up to two days of remote work and three or more days onsite per week. Travel may be required to attend trainings and conferences.
This is a permanent, full-time position with the potential for a Charter Financial Analyst (CFA) pay differential of 5% monthly base pay for employees who possess CFA certification.
