VP of Commercial Lending

The VP of Commercial Lending is a full-time, role based in the Detroit Metropolitan Area, with flexibility for some work from home. This role leads the commercial lending function, including the development and management of commercial loan portfolios that align with DMCU's strategic and risk objectives. Day-to-day responsibilities include overseeing loan origination and underwriting, guiding staff on complex credit decisions, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and internal policies.

The VP collaborates with internal teams to design and enhance commercial loan products, drives business development efforts with prospective and existing members, and maintains strong relationships with external partners such as SBA and community organizations. This role also monitors portfolio performance, prepares reports for senior leadership, and contributes to strategic planning for growth and member service within the commercial segment.

• Demonstrated expertise in Commercial Lending and Loans, including structuring, pricing, and managing diverse commercial credit facilities.
• Strong Underwriting skills, with experience assessing credit risk, analyzing financial statements, and making sound credit recommendations.
• Solid Finance background, with the ability to interpret financial data, understand capital adequacy, and support strategic financial decisions.
• Knowledge of SBA programs and related lending guidelines, with experience originating or managing SBA-backed commercial loans.
• Proven leadership experience managing lending teams or departments, including coaching, performance management, and talent development.
• Track record of business development, member relationship management, and community engagement within a financial services or credit union environment.
• Thorough understanding of regulatory requirements and industry best practices related to commercial lending and credit risk management.
• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or related field; advanced degree or professional certifications (e.g., CRC, CFA, CCE) are a plus.
