Grow Early Learning is a federally funded nonprofit dedicated to preparing children from agricultural families for long-term success through high-quality early childhood education. We offer holistic services that support both children and their families in a nurturing, culturally responsive environment. Our programs address educational, social, and emotional development while honoring the diverse backgrounds of the communities we serve. Beyond education, we advocate for families by connecting them with resources and support to meet broader needs.

Team members join a mission-driven organization that values inclusion, collaboration, and meaningful community impact.

About the Role

The Budget Manager is a full-time position based in Raleigh, NC, responsible for overseeing the organization’s financial planning and resource allocation. The role is on-site for the first 90 days of employment; after successful completion of this period, it becomes hybrid, with four days in the office and one day working from home.

As a steward of federal and other public funds, the Budget Manager develops and monitors annual and program-specific budgets, prepares regular financial reports, and analyzes variances to support data-informed decision-making. The position manages forecasting, prepares accurate financial projections for grant applications and continuation funding, and ensures that spending complies with federal grant requirements, internal policies, and applicable regulations. Working closely with leadership and program staff, the Budget Manager aligns financial strategies with organizational goals, provides guidance on allowable costs and cost controls, supports audit readiness, and recommends process improvements for financial efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, monitor, and revise annual operating budgets and grant-specific budgets
  • Track expenditures against approved federal grant budgets and prepare budget modifications as needed
  • Prepare monthly financial and variance reports for leadership, the board, and funding agencies
  • Ensure costs are allowable, allocable, and reasonable under federal grant guidelines
  • Track non-federal share (match and in-kind) contributions where required
  • Support annual audits, including the federal Single Audit, by maintaining accurate and well-documented records
  • Partner with program managers to plan spending that advances program goals within budget
  • Recommend and implement improvements to budgeting processes, internal controls, and reporting tools
Qualifications
  • Experience managing budgets in a nonprofit organization is highly preferred, particularly in programs funded by federal grants
  • Working knowledge of federal grant compliance, including the Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200), is strongly preferred
  • Experience in early childhood education, education, or social services settings is a plus
  • Strong budget management and budgeting skills to plan, track, and optimize organizational resources
  • Solid finance and accounting skills to ensure accurate reporting, compliance, and stewardship of funds
  • Advanced analytical skills to interpret financial data, identify trends, and support strategic decisions
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience
  • Proficiency with financial software, spreadsheets, and reporting tools; experience with fund accounting systems is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to meet deadlines in a dynamic environment
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work inclusively with diverse teams and stakeholders
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus
