Tax Manager
Direct Partner Track | $180k to $210k | Hybrid
CPA required | 8+ years’ Public Accounting experience
Looking for a new role at this level feels very different from moving as a Senior or Manager.
You’re not just asking whether the salary is better or whether the commute is shorter.
You’re thinking about who you’ll be working alongside, what kind of Partner you could become and, realistically, whether this might be the firm you stay with for the rest of your career.
So leadership matters. A lot.
The Managing Partner here puts it pretty simply:
“People spend 80% of their waking hours at work and it’s my job to be a good custodian of that time, make sure it’s fulfilling for them and help them reach their personal goals.”
That mindset runs through the Houston office.
People work hard, but there’s a genuine sense of togetherness and a pretty simple philosophy behind the culture: do good by people. That sounds obvious. Strangely, it isn’t always.
The work life balance is also fairly realistic for Public Accounting.
Busy season doesn’t really kick in until the end of February and, importantly, it doesn’t quietly stretch into summer.
You’ll work more than 40 hours during peak periods, of course, but the firm gives people flexibility around how they manage their time. If you need to leave for school pick up, work around family life or get home for the game, nobody is going to make it unnecessarily difficult.
You’ll also have a hybrid schedule with 2 days working from home. And when busy season is over, you can actually take the vacation you’ve been talking about taking for the last three years.
The day to day work is another reason this one stands out. This is a mid size firm, but the client base feels much bigger.
You’ll work with the sort of sophisticated businesses and complex tax situations you’d normally associate with a Top 10 or Big 4 environment, without necessarily getting everything else that comes with working for one.
So this isn’t a Senior Tax Manager position where your life becomes signing returns, reviewing work and sitting in internal meetings.
You’ll be heavily client facing. That means advisory work, entity planning, tax strategy and broader consulting alongside the technical side of the role.
They’re flexible on what that looks like too.
If you’ve developed a particular niche and want to keep building around it, there’s room for that.
If you prefer being more of a generalist and working across different businesses and tax situations, that works too.
Most importantly, this is a direct Partner track opportunity.
They’re looking for someone who wants to step into senior leadership, build strong client relationships, develop the people underneath them and eventually take that next step.
Just enough information to decide whether it’s worth another conversation.
