Energy Trader - Power Markets

Our client is seeking a dynamic and analytical Energy Trader to join their trading desk, managing positions and executing strategies within the volatile power markets . Based in Mahikeng , you will be responsible for optimizing the purchase and sale of electricity, identifying trading opportunities, and managing risk exposure. This role requires a sharp mind, deep understanding of market dynamics, and the ability to make quick, informed decisions under pressure.

• Execute physical and financial trades in various power markets , including day-ahead, real-time, and ancillary services.
• Develop and implement trading strategies based on market analysis, weather forecasts, and grid conditions.
• Monitor market prices, supply/demand balances, and regulatory changes to identify profitable opportunities.
• Manage and mitigate trading risks, ensuring compliance with risk limits and company policies.
• Collaborate with the power operations team to ensure efficient scheduling and dispatch of assets.
• Maintain detailed trading records and provide regular reports on market positions and P&L to senior management.

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in energy trading , with a strong focus on power markets .
• Demonstrated understanding of electricity market structures, pricing mechanisms, and trading instruments.
• Proven ability to analyze complex market data and make timely trading decisions.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and risk management skills.
• Experience with trading platforms and energy market data providers is highly desirable.
