Role Description The Mortgage Loan Officer is a full-time, hybrid role based in Beaufort, SC, with flexibility for partial work from home. In this role, the Loan Officer will guide clients through the mortgage process from initial consultation through closing, including assessing borrower needs, explaining loan options, and collecting required documentation. Day-to-day responsibilities include originating mortgage applications, coordinating with underwriting and processing teams, monitoring loan status, and ensuring compliance with lending regulations and company policies.

The role also involves providing proactive customer service, maintaining ongoing communication with clients and partners, and building relationships with real estate professionals and community contacts to generate new business. The Mortgage Loan Officer is expected to contribute to New Story Lending’s mission by promoting transparent, inclusive, and barrier-free access to home financing.

Qualifications

• Experience working as a Loan Officer or in a closely related lending role.
• Knowledge of the Mortgage Industry and current regulatory and compliance standards.
• Hands-on experience in Mortgage Lending processes, including application, processing, and closing.
• Familiarity with Underwriting principles and the evaluation of borrower creditworthiness.
• Strong Customer Service skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and support clients throughout the loan lifecycle.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment, managing time and tasks both in-office and remotely.
• Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and relationship-building skills with clients and referral partners.
• Comfort with mortgage origination software, CRM tools, and general office technology.
• High level of integrity, attention to detail, and commitment to equitable lending practices.
• Relevant state licensing and NMLS registration (or eligibility to obtain), and previous mortgage sales or lending experience preferred.
