Trade Finance Specialist

Our client, a dynamic international trade finance institution with a key office in East London , is seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Trade Finance Specialist. This role is vital for supporting clients in navigating the complexities of international trade transactions within the Eastern Cape business community. You will be responsible for processing, managing, and administering various trade finance instruments, including letters of credit, guarantees, and documentary collections.

The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of trade finance products, regulations, and operational procedures, along with excellent customer service skills. This hybrid role offers the flexibility to work from home for specific tasks, while ensuring essential client interactions and team collaboration occur within our East London offices, fostering a productive and balanced work environment.

• Process and manage applications for letters of credit, standby letters of credit, and bank guarantees.
• Administer documentary collections, ensuring compliance with URC 522.
• Review shipping documents for accuracy and compliance with trade finance instruments and regulations.
• Liaise with clients, correspondent banks, and other parties to facilitate smooth trade transactions.
• Ensure adherence to all relevant international trade regulations, including UCP 600 and ISBP.
• Monitor trade finance exposures and ensure compliance with internal risk policies.
• Provide expert advice to clients on trade finance solutions and best practices.
• Reconcile trade finance accounts and resolve discrepancies.
• Keep abreast of changes in trade finance products, regulations, and market trends.
• Support the business development team with client inquiries and proposal preparation.

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, International Business, Economics, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in trade finance operations or a related banking role.
• Thorough understanding of trade finance instruments (LCs, Guarantees, Collections) and associated rules (UCP 600, ISBP, URC 522).
• Knowledge of international trade regulations and compliance requirements.
• Proficiency in banking software systems related to trade finance.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective client and stakeholder interaction.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of other languages spoken in key trade partner regions is a plus.
• Experience with SWIFT messaging is advantageous.
