Job Level: 5

Department: Finance

Directorate: Corporate Services

Location: Working from home, with occasional UK travel

Reports to: Finance Reporting & Controls Manager

We’re looking for a highly analytical and proactive Finance Business Partner Analyst to join our Finance team and play a key role in supporting effective financial management across the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC). This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with data, building strong stakeholder relationships, and helping managers make informed financial decisions

Working closely with budget holders across the organisation, you will support the monthly forecasting process, provide insightful financial analysis, and ensure that financial information is accurate, reliable, and meaningful. You will also take ownership of key reporting tools and help drive improvements to financial processes through the effective use of Excel and Power Query.

As a fully remote organisation, NFCC values strong communication, collaboration, and accountability. You’ll have the opportunity to work with colleagues across a wide range of programmes and projects that support the UK fire and rescue sector.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting budget holders through the monthly forecasting and budget monitoring cycle.
  • Reviewing and challenging forecast submissions to ensure assumptions are robust, evidence-based, and accurate.
  • Consolidating, validating, and maintaining monthly financial forecasts and reporting data.
  • Producing analysis on budget variances, forecast movements, and emerging financial risks.
  • Managing and maintaining grant monitoring information and supporting datasets.
  • Performing reconciliations, data validation, and quality assurance checks.
  • Developing and improving reporting processes using advanced Excel and Power Query functionality.
  • Explaining complex financial information to non-financial colleagues in a clear and practical way.

Supporting continuous improvement of forecasting, grant monitoring and management report controls.

You will have:

  • AAT qualified, part-qualified accountant, or able to demonstrate substantial equivalent experience in management accounting, financial reporting, forecasting or financial analysis.
  • Practical experience of working with budget holders or other non-financial stakeholders to support budget monitoring, forecasting or financial decision-making is essential.
  • Demonstrable experience of reviewing financial information, questioning assumptions and providing constructive challenge in a clear and professional manner is essential.
  • Advanced Excel skills are essential, including formulas, lookups, pivot tables, data validation, data checking and cleansing, and the creation and maintenance of Power Query solutions.
  • Experience of consolidating information from multiple sources and maintaining complex reporting workbooks or financial data models is essential.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with experience of reconciliations, exception checking and resolving data quality issues, are essential.
  • Experience of grant monitoring, charity finance, public sector finance or a grant-funded organisation is desirable.
  • Experience of improving or automating finance processes while maintaining clear controls and audit trails is desirable.
  • Experience of working effectively in a remote environment, managing recurring deadlines and maintaining proactive communication with colleagues and stakeholders is desirable.
