Position: Budget Management Analyst 2 at Office of Budget and Management
Location: California

At the Ohio Office of Budget and Management, it is our mission to provide policy analysis, fiscal research and financial management services to the Governor and agencies of state government, helping to ensure the proper and responsible use of state resources.

As a cabinet-level agency within the executive branch of state government, OBM develops, coordinates and monitors the individual budgets of state agencies and reviews all financial transactions made with public funds.

The Ohio Office of Budget and Management (OBM) is the fiscal backbone of the State of Ohio enterprise. OBM works with the Governor and every state agency in providing policy analysis, fiscal research, and financial management services. We help state agencies shape Ohio’s future by ensuring the proper and responsible use of state resources!

What you’ll do

This is a unique position in state government that combines public policy with public finance. Budget Management Analysts (BMAs) maintain a portfolio of state agencies, boards or commissions. BMAs review agency budget and policy requests and make recommendations to OBM leadership and to members of the Governor’s office in developing the state’s $70+ billion budget. This position also includes monitoring the day-to-day finances of their assigned state agencies, working with the State Controlling Board, researching public policy, and oral and written presentations.

The BMA position provides for steady career advancement and has served as the entry point for many leaders in Ohio state government.

Qualifications - External
  • 36 months training or 36 months experience in public budgeting or finance.
  • Completion of undergraduate major core program in public or business administration, public policy, finance, economics, resource management or related area; 12 months work experience in public budgeting or finance.
  • Completion of graduate major core program in public or business administration, public policy, finance, economics, resource management or related area.
  • 12 months as Budget/Management Analyst 1, 63221.
  • Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.
