to join our team
- one in Industrial Pretreatment/Stormwater
and one in Backflow/Cross-Connection Control
. These roles are essential to ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and safeguarding our community’s water systems.
As a Water Quality Specialist, you will play a key role in monitoring, inspecting, and enforcing water quality standards. Whether you're focused on industrial discharges and stormwater runoff or ensuring the integrity of our drinking water system through backflow prevention, your work will directly contribute to the health and sustainability of our city.

Anticipated starting salary for this position may be up to mid-point depending on candidate’s experience and internal equity. The full salary range is listed above and mid-point for this position is $33.88/hour.
Education and Experience:- A High School diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate.
- Two years' experience in the field of: water quality, environmental quality, backflow, stormwater, or industrial pretreatment.
- An Associate's degree in a physical or biological science or related field may substitute for the experience requirement on a year-for-year basis.
- Preferred: A Bachelor's Degree in a physical or biological science or related field.
- Any equivalent combination of education and/or job-related experience that meets the minimum qualifications may be substituted.
- Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date. The Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles requires that out-of-state driver's licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona.
- Must possess or obtain within one year of hire, and maintain a Grade I operator certification, as assigned, from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality in Water Treatment, Water Distribution, Wastewater Collections, or Wastewater Treatment as appropriate.
- Must possess, or obtain within one year of hire or promotion, a Backflow Tester or Cross Connection Certification recognized by the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality.
- Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.
