Public Protection Officer - Environmental Health (Housing Enforcement) – Career Pathway

  • Location: Based in County Hall, Ruthin / Remote home working (travel throughout the county of Denbighshire is vital within this role)
  • Salary: Career Pathway Grades 6 – 9 (£32,597 - £42,839 per annum)
  • Hours : 37 per week
  • Contract: Permanent

Are you passionate about improving housing standards and making a tangible difference in your community? Denbighshire County Council is seeking motivated and committed individuals to join our dynamic Housing & Pollution Team within Public Protection.

About the Role

You will play a key part in maintaining and enhancing housing conditions across the county. Working collaboratively with key partners such as Rent Smart Wales, Fire and Police Authorities, you will help ensure safe, healthy living environments for residents.

Your work will be varied and rewarding, and will include:

  • Conducting detailed property inspections using the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS)
  • Identifying hazards and taking appropriate enforcement action
  • Preparing and serving statutory notices and schedules of work
  • Contributing to the delivery of both Mandatory and Additional HMO licensing schemes
  • Working within other disciplines of environmental health i.e. housing enforcement, public health, food safety and health and safety, using enforcement action as necessary.
Who We’re Looking For
  • Fully qualified Environmental Health Officers with relevant experience
  • Candidates with transferable skills seeking a career change
  • Graduates and students looking to begin a career in Environmental Health

For experienced candidates, prior knowledge of HMO licensing and enforcement processes will be advantageous.

For those starting out, we offer a fully supported pathway to qualification, including sponsorship of both academic and practical training, enabling you to become a CIEH-registered Environmental Health Officer. Applicants will be required to enrol on and commit to either the MSc or BSc Environmental Health course commencing this autumn.
