Authorised Firearms Officers Transferees

Nottinghamshire Police are now accepting Transferee applications from Authorised Firearms Officers with the ARV role profile.

PLEASE NOTE: you need to be a current servingofficer in a home office force or a previous servingofficer in a home office force.

Re-joiners who have left the service within 12 months will be considered but must have been previously accredited and deployable ARV officers.

Our Operational Support Department are looking for a diverse range of officers who have a positive, can-do attitude to bring to our team ethos.

The working hours are 40 per week and you will be based at Nottinghamshire Police Fire and Rescue Services Joint Headquarters, Sherwood Lodge Drive, Arnold, NG5 8PP
(Part time/flexible working options will be considered).

The role involves the provision of a 24-hour spontaneous and tactical firearms capability to the City and County of Nottinghamshire. This may include regional and national support on occasions. AFOs contribute towards overall policing performance through Force Tasking which involves a variety of activities in respect of targeting crime and offending. The role involves an intensive firearms training schedule which is planned throughout the year.

In addition, your role, as an AFO you may be required to be additionally selected and trained for specialist firearms roles which include Mobile Armed Support To Surveillance, rifle team, close protection, instructor and protected armed convoy operatives. Officers are also required to provide a Taser response to appropriate incidents. Whilst not engaged in specific firearms duties or tasks, AFOs will assist with response policing plus road crime / road policing incidents, taskings and initiatives, for which you will undergo pursuit training.

This may include initial attendance at and investigation of fatal / serious road traffic collisions. In addition, to ensure operational effectiveness is always maintained an element of flexibility is required and on occasions officers may be required to work extended shifts.

AFOs must maintain the associated physical, medical and firearms training standards as defined in the National Police Firearms Training Curriculum and associated role profile, in addition to any regional and local standards.

As one of our ARV’s, subject to eligibility and annual review you will also be entitled to an annual payment of £2000 in March of each year, for your commitment and service to a hard to recruit role.

  • Constable applicants must have completed the 2 year probationary period.
  • Must possess a current driving licence for cars and be an authorised Standard police driver or above.
  • Must agree to PSD / Management Vetting checks in respect of any matters affecting suitability for AFO training.
