Qualifications needed: RHIT, RHIA, CCA, CCS, CPC, or CPC‑H. Candidates residing in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Virginia are eligible for remote work.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Attend invasive procedures as requested by physicians, leadership, or coders.
  • Review invasive procedure reports; recommend, assign, and sequence CPT and HCPCS codes for cardiology and radiology records in accordance with coding guidelines and payer requirements.
  • Compare and reconcile variances between dictated reports and clinical procedure logs, including supplies used.
  • Act as a coding and billing expert and resource.
  • Assist with denial reviews and create denial trending reports for management.
  • Perform pre‑billing reviews of all cases and review pending or denied Cardiology/Imaging/Vascular claims monthly to identify root causes for non‑payment.
  • Identify coding‑related revenue and reimbursement improvement opportunities for Cardiology/Radiology services and report findings to management.
  • Maintain working knowledge of the Charge Description Master for the clinical area and collaborate with the CDM Manager and department directors to ensure CPT codes, procedures, supplies, and revenue codes are updated annually.
  • Identify supplies that can be returned to manufacturers for correct charging to minimize lost revenue.
  • Work with other departments to ensure all supplies and implants are accurately recorded.
  • Consult with and educate physicians on clinical documentation relevant to coding requirements.
  • Validate charges with Internal Audit.
  • Maintain working knowledge of all applicable systems (Sovera, SMS, 3M Encoder, RMS, Educode, and Clinical Systems) that support the clinical area.
  • Code all cases within 24 hours of occurrence and perform final pre‑billing reviews following reconciliation with dictated reports.
Qualifications
  • High School education required.
  • Medical Terminology and Physiology & Anatomy required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated proficiency in coding.
  • RHIT, RHIA, CCA, CCS, CPC, or CPC‑H certification.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Team player with initiative, organizational skills, analytical abilities, and detail orientation.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Working knowledge of healthcare computer systems; proficiency in Word, Excel, and web research for coding and billing information.
  • Must provide own transportation for travel to other Carilion work sites.
