The Mental Health Counselor position within the Peeler College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) will provide clinical counseling services to students in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree program. The counselor will also lead well‑being initiatives within the college to help veterinary students thrive throughout their degree program.
Job SummaryProvides clinical counseling to CVM students, leads well‑being initiatives, and performs other duties as assigned.
Job Duties- Essential – Clinical Services (50%)
Provides clinical services to CVM students in individual and tele‑mental health format. Conducts mental health assessments and generates/implements treatment plans from evidence‑based approaches. Provides crisis intervention and emergency services on‑site and through on‑call CAPS system. Utilizes assessment instruments as indicated by the presenting problem. - Essential – Administrative Duties (25%)
Completes necessary documentation in compliance with CAPs timelines using the appropriate electronic health record system. Completes all Redfern Health Center Mandatory training. Supports data collection for all program evaluation efforts. Participates in accreditation activities as assigned. - Essential – Programmatic Support (20%)
Supports the CVM Office of Academic Affairs in developing and implementing well‑being initiatives. Conducts curricular and extracurricular information sessions on student well‑being. Collaborates with faculty and staff to ensure students’ needs are met. - Essential – Professional Development (5%)
Maintains Master’s level license. Participates in professional conferences and conventions. Adheres to APA Ethical Principles, ACA Code of Ethics, Joint Commission accreditation standards, and participates in CVM committees.
- Master’s Degree in guidance, counseling, social sciences, or related field.
- 3+ years of professional experience in human or social services.
- License‑eligible in the State of South Carolina.
- Firm job knowledge and application of concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Non‑supervisory; no fiscal responsibility for department’s budget.
- 90% Sit (stationary position) for prolonged periods.
- 90% Communicate, converse, give direction, express oneself.
- 90% Recognize or inspect visually.
- 90% Perceive, observe, clarity of vision.
Standard hours: 37.5 hours per week.
CompensationExpected salary range: $57,334.00 – $85,000.00, dependent on experience, skills, and performance according to Clemson’s compensation guidelines.
Essential Personnel LevelLevel 1 employee. Required to respond during emergency closures or modified operations to provide the University’s initial response. Some locations may require remote work or on‑call duties.
