Job Description SummaryTo inspect and ensure compliance with fire and life safety codes. Responsible for protecting life and property by ensuring the design, installation, maintenance, and compliance of all fire and life safety systems within the University’s facilities. This role involves conducting inspections, assisting with safety plan development, ensuring adherence to all local, state, and federal fire safety laws and regulations, scheduling and conducting fire drills and emergency evacuation exercises, and assisting in the operation of the lab safety program.
Perform other duties as assigned.
- Conduct routine and unscheduled fire and life safety inspections of all facilities.
- Interpret and enforce fire safety codes.
- Coordinate and conduct fire drills and other emergency preparedness activities.
- Maintain detailed records of all inspection activities, test results and corrective actions.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in fire safety inspection, fire prevention or a related field.
- Valid Ohio driver’s license.
- Ability to operate University vehicles and golf carts.
- Strong critical‑thinking and problem‑solving skills to identify hazards and recommend effective solutions.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Associate’s degree in fire science or closely related field (or equivalent combination of experience and training).
- Certification as a fire safety inspector in the State of Ohio.
- Certification in WBFPS.
Duties require frequent outdoor activities during periods of extreme hot or cold temperatures; ability to climb ladders and steep stairs; ability to open/close valves in sometimes awkward positions and read gauges; ability to lift and carry equipment that weighs up to 75 pounds. May be required to work on weekends and holidays.
