Summary
This position produces high‑frequency, two‑dimensional ultrasonic recordings of the circulatory system used by physicians in disease diagnosis and assessment of circulatory system malfunctions. The Level III technologist also performs float coverage for other Ultrasound Technologists who are absent due to illness or paid time off.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Explains the procedure to the patient, instructs and assists them in assuming the required position for examination.
- Verifies that the prescription matches the procedure to be performed; adjusts billing code/exam title as needed; records all signs and symptoms for the exam.
- Selects equipment and transducer according to examination specifications (depth of field, organ or circulatory system to be examined).
- Keys exam data and patient information into the ultrasound equipment computer to maintain a record of results.
- Operates the transducer by hand over the specified area of the body, monitors the screen to ensure quality of the ultrasonic pattern.
- Produces images of internal organs and records diagnostic data in the PAC system, providing a permanent record of the examination.
- Presents prior and current studies to the radiologist for diagnostic assessment.
- Stocks/orders supplies, makes patient reminder calls, checks the ultrasound machine daily for issues, and performs any other duties assigned.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least two ARDMS registries, including Vascular (RVT).
- Current CPR certification.
- Minimum of one year of experience in a clinic or hospital setting.
- Knowledge of ultrasound procedures and protocols.
- Knowledge of customer service concepts and clinic policies, including safety, privacy, and HIPAA regulations.
- Knowledge of quality care standards for ultrasound.
- Knowledge of operating computers and accessing RIS/PACS programs.
- Skill in producing sonograms that meet physician expectations.
- Competence in using computer network systems to process patient and department information.
- Skill in performing quality exams with compassion toward patients.
- Ability to complete work in a timely manner.
- Clear communication skills in person and over the phone, fostering cooperative relationships with patients, families, physicians, and staff.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.
