Certified Surgical Technologist I or II - Main Operating Room

Sentara Health is hiring a Certified Surgical Technologist I or II for the Main OR in Charlottesville, VA. This is a full‑time day shift position, four 10‑hour shifts Monday‑Friday with required call. Call requirements: 6–7 shifts per 6‑week schedule. Sign‑on bonus up to $15,000 is available for qualified candidates.

The Operating Room at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital handles an average of 7,000 cases annually, with 8 OR suites and service lines including Complex GYN, Neurosurgery, Vascular/Thoracic, and Orthopedic surgery. It is the second highest‑performing OR in the Sentara system for orthopedic total joint procedures.

Responsibilities

The Surgical Technologist ensures that the operating room is properly prepared with the necessary instruments and equipment, assists the surgical team throughout the procedure by passing instruments, maintaining the sterile field, and anticipating the needs of the surgeon. The role involves maintaining patient safety and ensuring that the surgical environment is organized, clean, and sterile. The Technologist assists in applying dressings, securing surgical drapes, and transferring patients to recovery areas.

They adhere to infection control protocols and sterile techniques to prevent contamination and ensure patient safety, working closely with the surgical team to ensure smooth and effective procedures.

Education
  • Trade School Graduate – Surgical Technologist (Required)
  • Students currently completing a Surgical Technologist Program may be considered.
Certification/Licensure
  • Licensed Surgical Technologist – Virginia (Required)
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) – National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) OR Tech in Surgery TS‑C – National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) (Required)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association (AHA) (Required)
Experience
  • Operating room experience (preferred)
  • 3 years of Surgical Technologist experience (preferred)
  • Strong understanding of surgical procedures, sterile techniques, and patient‑safety protocols.
  • Strong communication skills with providers and surgical staff (required)
