Outpatient & Surgery Coding Auditors (FT and PT)
Remote VA Experienced Outpatient & Surgery Coding Auditors (Full‑time and part‑time positions available) accept 1099/Subcontractor or W‑2 arrangements, with or without benefits. Applicants must have at least 3 years of medical coding auditing experience within the last 5 years, prior VA experience, and be able to pass an initial coding entrance exam. You must be a U.S. citizen and available for a flexible schedule within a Monday–Sunday work week.
Work will be performed remotely in your home office and is ideal for those currently working with another VA contractor, a DRP, or recently retired VA employee.
Preference will be given to candidates who have an active Background Investigation, PIV Card, eToken, and an active VA Contractor’s Citrix Access Account or an active Moonlighter Account. Qualifications- Must be able to perform the full scope of multi‑specialty outpatient clinic, ED, minor procedures, radiology, rehabilitation, and lab encounters using ICD‑10, CPT, and HCPCS codes.
- At least three (3) years of VA or other relevant coding experience with a government contractor supporting VA or as a VA employee.
- At least three (3) years of VA or other relevant auditing experience with a government contractor supporting VA or as a VA employee.
- Thorough working knowledge of VHA coding guidelines.
- Ability to follow site‑specific coding guidelines.
- Familiar with E/M leveling for outpatient and ED visits using current coding guidelines.
- Familiar with E/M calculator and ability to use this tool proficiently.
- Familiar with 3M Encoder for ICD‑10 and CPT coding.
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, pathology and disease processes, pharmacology, health record format and content, reimbursement methodologies and conventions, rules and guidelines for current classification systems (ICD, CPT, HCPCS).
- Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Must be able to work as part of a project team environment.
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) / Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) / Certified Coding Specialist‑Physician (CCS‑P)
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
- Certified Outpatient Coder (COC)
- Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA)
- High School Diploma or equivalent
