Health Care Services Trainee – Grand Junction Regional Center (Western Slope)
Position:
Health Care Services Trainee at the State of Colorado. Eligible for residents and non‑residents of Colorado. Applications open to legal residents of the United States. Candidates from outside Colorado must relocate prior to start.
Grand Junction Regional Center (GJRC) is a collection of group homes that serve adult individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The center focuses on improving outcomes and promoting community integration. GJRC has 10 homes across Grand Valley with private fenced backyards and recreation equipment.
Job DescriptionNo experience is necessary; a strong desire to learn is required. The role provides hands‑on direct care to individuals with IDD, including health care, personal hygiene, and therapeutic milieu. Up to 12 individuals per setting.
Duties in This Role Include- Receive and understand training in nursing skills, medication administration, IDD theory and practice, behavior management, etc.
- Support individuals by implementing behavior programs and positive redirection techniques.
- Communicate with elderly or physically impaired individuals.
- Provide infection control, safety, and emergency procedures.
- Prevent and report abuse and/or neglect.
- Apply knowledge in daily activities: meal prep, eating, bathing, personal hygiene, social skills, recreation, housekeeping, laundry, safety, transportation.
- Apply knowledge when posting duties and safely provide daily activities during specified time frames.
- Implement individualized supports and services for behavior, social, recreation, work, and specialized therapies.
100% in‑person. Rotating two‑week schedule:
Week 1 – 3 days on / 4 days off;
Week 2 – 4 days on / 3 days off. Shifts of 12 hours (7:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m.).

- State residency required at time of application and during employment.
- Motor Vehicle check and valid Colorado driver’s license.
- Travel required to group homes and programming.
- TB test and required vaccinations; 18+ years.
- Pre‑employment physical: can exert up to 50 lb occasionally.
- Former state employees with disciplinary termination must disclose details.
