Directly coordinates, oversees and controls the flow of medical record coded information required of the hospital and ambulatory sites for billing/reimbursement purposes. The Coding Coordinator of Quality & Education is responsible for the completeness, accuracy, quality and timely submission of all medical data and supporting documentation for inpatient discharges and outpatient encounters. Acts as the departmental liaison to the activities in the coding reimbursement process.
Assesses, designs and evaluates educational programs and processes that are aimed at improving the quality of documentation practices for Henry Ford Health System. Serves as an educational resource for providers and/or coding staff relating to coding and documentation.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required. Associates Degree in Healthcare related field, Medical Records Sciences, or Business/Healthcare administration or five (5) years coding experience may be considered in lieu of education requirement.
- Additional specialty coding certification or two (2) years of specialty coding experience required.
- Must have a thorough knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, disease processes, medical terminology, pharmacology, and coding systems.
- Five (5) years of specialty coding experience preferred.
- Certification in at least one of the following:
Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or RHIT Certification eligibility, CPC-A, CCS, CCP, CCA, COC.
