Job Summary

The Research Technician Intermediate (Research Project Coordinator) will work with the lab manager to assist in coordination of the day-to-day operations of a research project (s) within the LSA Clinical Science area of the psychology department at the University of Michigan.

Responsibilities include coordinating various research activities, supervising, training and scheduling research assistants, organizing participant schedules, overseeing data collection and management, ensuring research compliance, managing supplies, and preparing progress reports. The role involves strong project coordination and team communication skills and requires close interaction with research assistants, participants, and the lab manager.

Responsibilities
* Project Coordination & Oversight

  • Coordinate the on-the-ground, daily, fine-grain activities of the particular assigned research project (s) and activities
  • Develop and maintain project timelines, schedules, and deliverables.
  • Organize team meetings, distribute agendas, record minutes, and track action items for the specific assigned research project team.
Personnel Management

  • Schedule, train, and supervise research assistants.
  • Serve as a primary point of communication between student research assistants and the lab manager
  • Monitor the progress, schedules, weekly hours, concerns, and status of the assigned research assistants
Participant Management

  • Manage the daily operations of scheduling participants, paying participants, and communicating with participants throughout a research project.
  • Address participant concerns and questions as they arise throughout the research project.
Data Management

  • Oversee data collection, entry, and quality assurance (e.g., ensuring accuracy and completeness).
  • Maintain databases and ensure data is stored securely, following IRB and institutional guidelines.
Research Compliance & Administration

  • Coordinate and prepare IRB submissions and renewals.
  • Monitor correspondence with the IRB.
  • Ensure study protocols (informed consent, confidentiality) are followed.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for audits and reporting.
Resource Management

  • Order and manage lab supplies and materials as needed.
Communication & Reporting

  • Prepare project progress reports, briefs, newsletters, and summaries for the lab manager and PI.
  • Communicate research/project updates effectively with team members and external partners.
Required Qualifications
* High school diploma or Associate's degree and 1 to 2 years experience.

Desired Qualifications
*
  • Bachelor's degree in psychology or related field (post-baccalaureate experience preferred).
  • Phlebotomy certification is ideal.
  • Prior wet and/or dry lab experience would be helpful.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Experience with data management software (e.g., Excel, REDCap, Qualtrics) preferred.
  • Prior experience with research compliance (e.g., IRB) is a plus.
