Psychologist (Remote)
The psychologist performs Medical Disability Examinations (MDE) for veterans filing disability claims for mental health conditions (e.g., PTSD, Depression, Anxiety) through the Veterans Benefits Administration as part of the Compensation and Pension Program. Comprehensive mental health exams require a mental health assessment and medical opinions but no treatment.
Pay: Base + Monthly incentive plan = $122,720–$146,723 a year.
Key Roles- Standard outpatient assessments/evaluations
- Psychological / Neuropsychological Testing service requests
- Participate in peer consultations, staff meetings, and trainings; enter determinations within the Department of Veterans Affairs guideline requirements; perform other duties as required by the reviewer's manager
- Conduct non‑MD clinical reviews of requests for psychological or neuropsychological testing
- Perform comprehensive mental health examinations (MDE) including PTSD, Depression, MST, anxiety, eating disorder
- Write medical opinions as the subject‑matter expert for mental health claims
- Maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and VA rules and procedures
- Perform C&P mental health examinations; one‑time, no‑treatment exams
- Licensed doctoral level (Ph.D. or Psy.
D.) Psychologist - Current license allowing full independent practice and unrestricted; additional state licenses may be required
- Minimum 2 years of post‑licensure experience
- Computer skills:
Windows OS, Outlook, Word, Teams, Excel - Secure home workspace with high‑speed internet via cable/DSL
- Graduated from an APA‑approved school or doctorate program
- Experience performing C&P exams preferred (training provided)
- Diplomate of the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP)
- ASPPB Certificate of Professional Qualification (CPQ)
- Experience in a managed care setting, peer reviews, and with Commercial, Medicaid, Medicare lines of business
- Experience with CPT and HCPC codes
- Clinical experience at higher levels of care (Intensive Outpatient)
- Experience with children, adolescents, substance abuse diagnoses, and evidence‑based treatment
- Advanced computer skills using Excel and Access databases
- Strong organizational, time‑management, writing, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaborate within a clinical team
- Comfortable with a fast‑paced, changing environment
