This is an exciting opportunity to train to be a Pharmacy Technician. Pharmacy Technicians work as part of the pharmacy team and in partnership with the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure patients have safe and appropriate access to medicines in a wide range of healthcare settings. You will be based in Primary Care Pharmacy, in the Nithsdale Cluster, but will be required to work throughout NHS Dumfries & Galloway gaining experience within different Pharmacy teams and sectors.

Primary Care Pharmacy works as part of the Multi‑Disciplinary team within GP Practices.

The role will be Monday – Friday (within an 8‑5pm pattern). Hours can be agreed with the candidate. The role will be primarily based within our Technician Led Hubs.

The Pharmacy Technician qualification is gained through a combination of knowledge‑based learning (PDA in Pharmacy Services SCQF level
7) via a blended learning format with West College Scotland and vocational education (SVQ in Pharmacy Service at SCQF level

On successful completion of the training you will register with the General Pharmaceutical Council in order to practice as a Pharmacy Technician. Successful candidates will be allocated 1 day per week study time but will be required to invest some of their own time to ensure completion of the diploma within the 2‑year timeframe.

Once registered you will be eligible to apply for a range of roles in various sectors of pharmacy, with further opportunities of progression available.

The candidate is required to be educated to SQF National 5 in all of the following subjects:
English, Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology

In addition to academic qualifications, we are looking for applicants who can evidence an enthusiasm for learning and development, a professional attitude and a passion for working within the wider healthcare care team.
