Job SummaryThe Functional Family Therapist is responsible for providing at least one-hour, home-based family therapy sessions weekly to clients. This role requires a flexible work schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Therapists must be strengths-based, using assessments and interventions to address risk and protective factors within the family system.
Responsibilities- Serve high‑risk families, including those whose children face substantial placement risk or are in placement situations that cannot be reunified without in‑home services.
- Provide Functional Family Therapy services primarily in client homes.
- Schedule sessions at times convenient for families, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Collaborate and advocate with formal and informal community resources while teaching families to advocate for themselves.
- Identify, develop, and implement appropriate cognitive and behavioral intervention strategies sensitive to each family member within the FFT model guidelines.
- Maintain accurate documentation of client files, progress notes, service plans, and data collection points.
- Prepare for weekly case review and supervision.
- Submit required documentation and data collection promptly to the FFT coordinator or site supervisor.
- Assist administrative staff with program effectiveness data collection.
- Foster a positive, non‑judgmental, strengths‑based relationship with every FFT family.
- Respond positively and respectfully to diversity among the agency’s service population and staff.
- Carry an assigned caseload.
- Perform other duties as requested by direct supervisor, Clinical Director, or CEO.
- Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW), Counseling (MA, MS), or Marriage & Family Therapy (MFT).
- Licensed or license‑eligible as LMSW/LCSW, APC/LPC, AMFT/LMFT. Prior experience with youth and families is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of therapeutic approaches such as CBT, FFT, and family systems therapy.
- Excellent communication and active listening skills.
- Ability to work with diverse populations and handle sensitive issues with empathy.
- Willingness to work with families in their homes (typically 3 p.m.–7 p.m.).
- Local travel required with a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Crisis management, de‑escalation, and critical thinking skills.
- Respect for cultural diversity and ability to intervene decisively when necessary.
- Ability to engage families who may resist services.
- Commitment to empowering families to solve their own problems.
Clients are located throughout north metro Atlanta and surrounding counties. The role is fast‑paced, dynamic, and requires evening and weekend flexibility. Therapists must be able to lift up to 25 pounds and spend approximately 50% of their time working in front of a computer, with the remaining time traveling to client homes.
