Job Summary
Remote ACC Lead Clinical Coder position at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust (UHP). ACC‑qualified Clinical Coder required to deliver highly accurate, efficient coding of inpatients and day‑case episodes, meeting Trust deadlines and contributing to a high‑quality clinical coding service.
We offer fully remote and onsite work, with UHP working towards an EPR system. Preference given to internal Trust staff and NHS At‑Risk staff with recent relevant experience.
Medical coders and applicants without the NCCQ need not apply.
Responsibilities- Provide accurate clinical coding for inpatients and day cases using ICD‑10 and OPCS‑4.
- Code uncoded episodes to meet work targets set by the Clinical Coding Service Manager.
- Act as a mentor and support junior coding staff.
- Lead specialty coding for at least one specialty, attend audit meetings and advise on review issues.
- Maintain adherence to local coding procedures and liaise with consultants, junior medical staff, finance and audit teams.
- Assist the Clinical Coding Service Manager and the Performance Improvement Manager in delivering accurate coded data for hospital performance indicators.
- Knowledge and Experience
- Previous demonstrable experience as a Clinical Coder.
- Expertise in ICD‑10 and OPCS‑4 coding.
- Proven knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
- Good keyboard and Microsoft Office skills.

- Experience with clinical data analysis.
- Knowledge of national coding developments.
- Experience with patient management systems in coding.
- Essential Qualifications
- Accredited Clinical Coder (IHRIM).
- GCSE standard A‑C/4‑9 in Maths and English.
- Desirable Qualifications
- GCSE in a science subject.
