Responsibilities
  • To assist physicians in the performance and interpretation of various diagnostic procedures related to the treatment of vascular disease; to monitor, interpret and record data; and to participate in quality assurance programs of the Diagnostic Vascular Unit.
  • Perform vascular diagnostic procedures independently utilizing ultrasound and other ancillary devices.
  • Use knowledge and skills to record and adapt vascular exams to obtain anatomical and pathological diagnostic information and images as appropriate for individual disease processes.
  • Use independent judgment to acquire the optimum diagnostic information for each examination performed.
  • Perform carotid, peripheral venous, peripheral arterial, physiological arterial, visceral, aortic, TCD, hemodialysis access, TCOM, venous insufficiency, intraoperative, bypass, and other exams following established protocols as outlined by IAC.
  • Evaluate and communicate diagnostic information to referring medical providers.
  • Assume responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of the patient while in the care of the sonographer.
  • Establish and maintain ethical working relationships and effective communication with all referring services and staff.
  • Maintain knowledge of and observe universal precautions.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Adapt to changing environments, such as, changing schedules, emergency situations, evolving technology and protocol development.
Required Qualifications
  • Graduation from a formal Vascular Sonography Program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHEP).
  • Current ARDMS Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) or CCI Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) certification, or registry eligible with certification being obtained within 4 months of date of hire.
  • This Classification requires registration, certification or licensure with the appropriate agency as identified on the Primary Source Verification Matrix.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience working within a large, complex, outpatient healthcare setting.
  • Experience working in an IAC Vascular Accredited facility.
  • Familiarity with Michigan Medicine electronic medical records systems.
  • Previous experience working with clinical staff (nurses, mid‑level providers, and physicians).
  • Working knowledge of cardiology/vascular/surgical terms, testing and procedures.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
Work Schedule

Temporary as needed to cover vacations, sick time and leaves. This includes weekdays, evenings, overnight and weekends. Work locations may vary based on need to include all DVU locations.
