Location:

Charlottesville, VA

Shift: Second (Evenings) — 9am to 9pm, 36 hours per week. Block scheduling: 3 days on, 2 days off, 3 days on, 6 days off. No call required.
Sign‑on bonus up to $15,000 for qualified candidates.

Operating Room at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital handles an average of 7,000 cases per year, with 8 OR suites and a variety of service lines including Complex GYN, Neurosurgery, Vascular/Thoracic, and Orthopedic surgery. It is the 2nd highest‑performing OR in the Sentara system for Orthopedic total joint procedures.

• Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and assist the surgeon with tasks such as selecting equipment, setting up tables, positioning equipment, providing retraction, cauterizing bleeding vessels, suturing and closing incisions.
• Instill medications, apply surgical dressings, splints, and casts.
• Perform preoperative and postoperative duties to facilitate patient care.
• Use effective interdisciplinary communication to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
• Demonstrate in‑depth clinical and technical skills in three surgical specialties.
• Participate in departmental improvement efforts, including quality improvement projects and in‑services.
• Assist with orientation of new employees and educational instruction for Surgical Assistant students, interns, or externs.

• Graduate of a CAAHEP accredited Surgical Assistant Program.
• Trade School Graduate – Surgical Assistant (TS – Surgical Assistant).

• Licensed Surgical Assistant – Virginia.
• Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) – National Commission for the Certification of Surgical Assistants (NCCSA).
• Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) – National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association (AHA).

• 3+ years of operating room experience.
• In‑depth clinical and technical skills in three surgical specialties.
• Experience in departmental improvement projects and quality improvement initiatives.
• Effective interdisciplinary communication skills.
