Environmental Health Officer
Location:

Mon – Fri, 09:00 – 17:00
Pay Rate: £ 28.14 Per Hour (12 Weeks Hours per week: 36)

Job Responsibilities
Conduct inspections of premises to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, national standards, and Council policies.
Investigate service requests and ensure remedial action is completed.
Provide advice on food safety and infectious disease legislation to Councillors, responsible authorities, businesses, and residents.
Prepare licences, registrations, correspondence, and statutory notices within delegated authority or refer to the Food Safety Manager/Head of Service.
Collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure compliance with food safety regulations.
Prepare cases for legal proceedings in consultation with the Food Safety Manager/Head of Service and Legal Team.
Deliver promotional work and educational talks to residents and organisations as required.
Act as the lead officer for designated specialist areas, as directed.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and undertake further training as required.
Support the training of trainees and junior staff in specialist areas.
Maintain accurate records of all work undertaken.
Contribute to cross-divisional projects and activities as required.
Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role to support the efficient operation of the Department.
Person Specification
Must-Have Requirements
Degree or diploma in Environmental Health or equivalent.
Registration with the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB) preferred.
Full driving licence.
Sound knowledge of food safety and infectious disease legislation and enforcement procedures.
Experience of working as a qualified and authorised food safety officer.
Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Flexible approach, including willingness to work evenings and weekends.
Competence in Microsoft Office and relevant Environmental Health database software.
Nice-to-Have Requirements
Experience working in a local authority setting.
Higher Certificate in Food Control.
Training or experience in handling difficult or aggressive individuals.
Experience in cross-divisional projects.
Additional Instructions
Work may involve frequent face-to-face contact with dissatisfied or potentially aggressive individuals; appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required.
Some home working may be necessary.
This role requires flexibility to undertake duties outside normal office hours.
