Position: Primary Care Practitioner (Nurse or Paramedic

This is an excellent opportunity for a Primary Care Practitioner (Nurse or Paramedic) to join a diverse, talented healthcare team delivering patient‑centred care in a prison setting. The role focuses on efficient, integrated care across mental health, physical health, pharmacy and clinical substance misuse.

Responsibilities
  • Reception screening
  • Emergency response and medical emergency leadership
  • Long‑term conditions management
  • Planned care, including running clinics
  • Enhanced assessment and diagnostic intervention services
  • Health promotion activities
  • Lead implementation of radio‑communication and acute response protocols
  • Support multidisciplinary teams and coordinate care plans for patients with complex needs
  • Participate in managerial and professional clinical supervision, training, and annual appraisal
Qualifications and Experience

• Registered Nurse or Paramedic:
Band 5 practitioners or newly qualified nurses eligible for a preceptorship.

• Ability to undertake National Security Vetting (completed through Oxleas and the prison vetting team).

• Willingness to carry a radio and lead in medical emergency responses.

• Commitment to evidence‑based practice and continuous professional development.

  • Proof of right‑to‑work documentation.
  • Valid photographic  proof of address history (5 years).
  • Non‑UK passport holders must supply a Home Office Share Code and, if required, a police certificate or a certificate of good conduct from any country where they have resided.
  • Completion of all relevant national security and emergency training as specified by the prison service.
Shift Pattern

3 × 12.5‑hour shifts (7:00 am–7:30 pm) per week for 3 weeks and 4 × 12.5‑hour shifts in the fourth week. One shift is protected for mandatory training, supervision, and on‑site administration. Roster includes:

• 2 weekends every 6‑week roster (Saturday and Sunday).

• 1 set of 3‑night shifts every 12‑week roster, including 2 per annum on weekends (7:00 pm–7:30 am).
