This opening is for a full-time position with the South Dakota Department of Health for a Dietitian Manager in the Office of Family Nutrition Services (OFNS). The Dietitian Manager provides leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight for the Office of Family Nutrition Services Programs within the assigned region. This position is responsible for program planning, staff management, community partnerships, service delivery innovation, and fiscal oversight to ensure high-quality, accessible, and compliant nutrition services.

The Dietitian Manager works collaboratively with administrative staff, community partners, vendors, and stakeholders to improve programs reach, effectiveness, and health outcomes, particularly for underserved populations.

Position may require extended work hours, including Saturdays, as well as in-state travel with overnight stays for service delivery, trainings, and meetings. Limited out-of-state travel may be required for conferences.

Leadership and Staff Management
  • Directs staff and resources to ensure WIC services are delivered in compliance with applicable policies, procedures, regulations, standards, and professional scope of practice.
  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring, training, mentoring, and evaluating staff performance.
  • Provides guidance, coaching, and motivation to individuals and teams to achieve performance objectives.
  • Focuses on staff development to enhance capabilities, support professional growth, and ensure quality care delivery.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Assists with the planning, promotion, and implementation of program services and leads the rollout of new initiatives.
  • Assess service delivery gaps and identifies opportunities to expand or enhance services using innovative methods, including in-person, group, virtual, online, mobile units, and texting platforms.
  • Participates in multi-faceted community health assessments and planning efforts to support program development and public health goals.
  • Facilitates outreach to underserved and priority populations, using creative problem-solving strategies to reduce barriers to access.
Operations, Quality Improvement, and Fiscal Oversight
  • Analyzes and evaluates program operations and makes recommendations to improve quality, efficiency, cost-effectiveness, staffing, and programming.
  • Provides technical guidance and serves as a consultant in complex, multidisciplinary situations.
  • Manages the regional budget and provides fiscal oversight for contract services.
  • Ensures accurate reporting, monitoring, and compliance with funding and contract requirements.
  • Analyzes and evaluates operations and makes recommendations for improvements to quality, cost, efficiency, staffing, and programming.
Community Partnerships and Collaboration
  • Builds and maintains strong strategic partnerships with community agencies, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders.
