Medical Coding Specialist – Southwoods Health
Southwoods Health is seeking a Medical Coding Specialist to join our team. This position offers the flexibility of being fully remote (must be within commutable distance of Boardman, OH, for training) or fully in-office at our Boardman location.
The Medical Coding Specialist is responsible for the accurate assignment of CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM codes to ensure compliant billing for all assigned clinical encounters.
Essential Duties- Read and abstract E/M levels from specialty office or hospital documentation.
- Provide CPT codes for surgeries, anesthesia, pain management, and radiology as needed.
- Query physicians within the Meditech system; for those not on Meditech, coordinate with the assigned hospital contact person.
- Apply bundling concepts and strictly adhere to CMS guidelines.
- Assign ICD-10-CM codes to the highest level of specificity.
- Understand and appropriately assign HCPCS codes based on the Place of Service (POS).
- Accurately append modifiers as required.
- Maintain knowledge of various payer groups (e.g., Medicaid HMO, Medicare HMO) and apply appropriate coding guidelines.
- Maintain a 95% coding accuracy rate while meeting established productivity standards.
- Demonstrate a solid understanding of anatomy and physiology.
- Research complex coding scenarios and consult with supervisors when necessary.
- Ensure all processes at assigned physician practices maintain compliance with regulatory agencies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Certification:
Current medical coding certification (CCS, CCA, CPC, RHIT, COC, ACA, or CIC) is required. - Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of professional coding experience. - Technical
Skills:
Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and experience with E/M coding for specialty offices. - Expertise:
Proficiency in assigning CPT and ICD-10-CM codes for high-level office and hospital procedures.
