- Accurately code Outpatient Surgery and Observation records using ICD
10CM
and CPT4 coding systems - Ensure compliance with coding rules and regulations as mandated by regulatory agencies (CMS, OIG)
- Collaborate with the team to meet departmental and accounts receivable goals
- Abstract prescribed data elements from medical records
- Maintain knowledge of encoder systems and outpatient payment systems
- Minimum educational requirement:
High School Diploma or GED - Required certifications: AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist or AHIMA Registered Health Information Technician
- Must obtain CCS or RHIT certification within 2 years if not already certified upon hire
- At least 2 years of coding experience
- Knowledge of National and Local Coverage Determination policies
- Familiarity with outpatient prospective payment system (OPPS) and Ambulatory Surgical Center payment system (ASC)
- Competency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with coworkers, management, and physicians
