This is a remote, per-diem position that does not qualify for benefits.
Objective: Performs Emergency Department coding assignments and Outpatient Data Quality Reviews with minimal supervision. Performs other temporary staffing assignments associated with NJHA-HBS Information Services program. Completes necessary worksheets to capture the data needed to create client invoices and to manage departmental operations. May assist with the research of coding guidelines and mentoring NJHA-HBS Level 1 Coders.

telephone, computer, calculator, virtual communications platforms (ZOOM / Teams, etc.), encoder system.
Essential Job Functions:
- Performs coding assignments with minimal assistance, thereby demonstrating proficiency in ICD and CPT coding at diverse health care settings.
- Communicate with both the office manager for NJHA-HBS Information Services, as well as the site (hospital) personnel as to the status/outcome of coded records for the day.
- Maintains logs and records of hours, number and type of records coded, expenses, or additional data needed by NJHA-HBS, and coordinates this activity with the Office Manager for billing purposes.
- Productivity and quality standards must be met. Productivity should be 6 records per hour with quality of 95%. Coding errors include, (but are not limited to): sequencing, incorrect DRG assignment, Incorrect code and incorrect 5th digit.
- Maintains updated coding guidelines and coding resources to enhance and maximize coding activities.

- Maintains a high level of professionalism when interacting with clients.
- Must keep abreast of coding changes and issues by either attending seminars, workshops, or self-teaching.
Qualifications: High school graduate plus experience in Health Information Management or related field. Individuals with coding certification (CCS, CPC) are preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy/physiology required. Working knowledge of ICD and CPT, familiarity with ICD-PCS, and understanding of coding principles and practices with prior coding experience required. Excellent communication skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality required. Individual should not pose a threat to the health or safety of self or others.
Base Salary Range: $30.00 - $38.00 hourly
