Job Overview
We are looking for a kind, patient, and emotionally attuned Personal Assistant (PA) to support a 13‑year‑old with autism and related challenges. The candidate will work with a private client in Swansea, supporting the young person both at home and in the community. The role requires calm, consistent support, building trust and helping the individual feel safe, understood, and empowered.
Driver required to take the client out.
Hours:
4 hours a week during term time, 8 hours a week during school holidays. Pay: £13.13 per hour.
- Offer calm, consistent support during moments of overwhelm or distress.
- Guide the young person to quiet, safe spaces in crowded or loud environments.
- Provide gentle reminders for safety when crossing busy roads.
- Respect social boundaries, avoiding small talk with unfamiliar people unless initiated by the client.
- Offer consistent, calm support to help the client feel safe and confident in new or busy environments.
- Support the client in getting out and about in the community and visiting places of interest.
- Assist with home-based activities that the client enjoys.
- Maintain privacy and confidentiality around the client’s gender identity and personal information.
- Be confident, mature, and patient.
- Be dependable, arrive on time, and maintain an easy‑going manner.
- Be adaptable and flexible, yet supportive without taking over.
- Maintain business insurance on your car to transport clients.
- Undergo a six‑month probationary period.
- Process DBS before commencement of employment (costs covered by Swansea Council for eligible applicants).
- Awareness and understanding of neurodivergence: ADHD, ASD, and PDA.
- Awareness of LGBTIQA identities.
- Ability to build trust through empathy, patience, and genuine connection.
- Experience or willingness to work with individuals who may have special needs or be in a challenging mental health situation.
Salary will be paid monthly. Annual leave is calculated on a pro‑rata basis. The role is a full‑time position with a defined weekly hour scheme and a trial period of six months.
