Are you a qualified senior health & safety practitioner with experience in a wide range of health and safety matters? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you.
You will play a key part in shaping and delivering our health & safety management framework.
Your work will help ensure the Council meets its statutory obligations under Health & Safety legislation, while supporting management and staff to ensure safe and healthy working environments across a wide range of service areas.
This is a high-profile position providing expert advice across all Council services and an essential role in creating a pro-active and generative health and safety culture throughout the organisation.
The jobholder will have a NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent with evidence of wider professional learning in areas including fire safety and/or management of specific health and safety hazards.
The jobholder must hold membership of the Chartered Institute of Safety & Health, along with extensive experience of working in a health & safety advisory environment.
You will be confident in the use of Microsoft applications and capable of managing and administering health & safety software systems. Experience in the use of the SPHERA Safety Management system will be an advantage but not essential.
Midlothian Council is a semi-rural authority located immediately south of the City of Edinburgh and is the fastest growing Local Authority in Scotland.
The role will be delivered on a hybrid working model giving the successful applicant the opportunity to combine working from home, in the field and in the office.

KNOWLEDGE
A minimum of NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent is expected from this post-holder although evidence of wider professional learning in areas including Fire Safety and management of specific health and safety risks are expected.
The Jobholder must also hold membership of the Chartered Institute of Safety & Health, along with extensive experience of working in a Health & Safety advisory environment. A sound knowledge of current issues relating to health and safety law and basic keyboarding skills and familiarity with Windows based software is also essential.
Jobholders must keep up to date with developments in professional practice and current legislation in order to provide an effective advisory service and develop project areas.
Some experience of staff supervision and working in the public sector is desirable

Please note that it is Midlothian Councils policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale.
Based on 36 hours over 52 weeks per year, the minimum actual salary for this position is £48,730.86 per annum. The starting salary for a Risk, Safety & Health Advisor is £43,438.
