What You’ll Do Michigan Medicine Speech‑Language Pathologist

This is a 28‑hour‑per‑week position with full benefits.

  • Assessment and treatment of infants/children with speech, language, feeding/swallowing disorder or delayed development.
  • Conducts, analyzes and forms treatment plan based on an instrumental swallow procedure (i.e., video fluoroscopic swallow study).
  • Education of families regarding communication and feeding/swallowing development and methods of improving function.
  • Examines, tests, diagnoses and administers remedial treatments for patients with speech disorders.
  • Evaluates patients regarding the application of a wide variety of therapeutic techniques for rehabilitation of speech, language and oral motor disorders.
  • Records speech samples and conducts phonetic analyses of speech ability.
  • Documents test results and recommends remedial treatment.
  • Performs evaluations with special attention to receptive and expressive language skills, speech fluency, vocal and oral motor competence, articulation and auditory skills.
  • Confers with associates and institutes treatment utilizing corrective exercises and special equipment.
  • Maintains active and supportive communication with the patient regarding progress, problems, home programs and other issues related to the therapeutic process. Typically analyze, compare and evaluate various courses of action and have the authority to make independent decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction, within the scope of their responsibilities.
  • Participate in staff meetings regarding individual patients with physicians, nurses, insurance representative and allied health professionals.
Required Qualifications *
  • A Master's degree in Speech‑Language Pathology.
  • Current licensure as a Speech‑Language Pathologist in the State of Michigan.
  • A Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) awarded by the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA).
  • This classification requires Primary Source Verification.

  • Ability to work effectively with medical and allied health professionals within an interdisciplinary team.

M-F: 28 hours week

Children & Women’s Hospital, Ann Arbor, MI.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U‑M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre‑employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre‑employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U‑M campuses.
