EHC Cumbria

Hours:

Full Time / Part Time and Bank (flexible shifts, including some evenings/weekends)

Location:

Penrith and surrounding village's (Occasional trips outside of Penrith maybe required to support with hospital appointments in Carlisle or Kendal)

Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Home Assistant to provide essential support to individuals in their homes. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for our Service Users by assisting with daily activities and ensuring their comfort and safety. This position requires strong communication skills, a caring disposition, and the ability to follow Care Plans effectively.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Personal Care and Support to our Service Users within their own homes, including washing, dressing, toileting and mobility.
  • Support daily living activities, such as meal preparation, feeding, light household tasks and shopping.
  • Administer or prompt medication in accordance with Person Centred Care Plans and company policies (after appropriate training is given).
  • Encourage independence and promote dignity, privacy and choice of each Service User at all times.
  • Provide companionship and emotional support, helping to reduce loneliness and maintain wellbeing.
  • Assist with mobility and transfers, using appropriate moving and handling techniques and equipment.
  • Monitor and report changes in Service Users health, mood or behaviour to Senior Staff or Management.
  • Keep accurate care records and reports, ensuring all documentation is completed promptly and correctly.
  • Follow our individual Care Plans and risk assessments to deliver person- centred support.
  • Work collaboratively with family members, healthcare professionals and our wider Care Team to ensure continuity of care.
  • Adhere to Safeguarding, confidentiality and health and safety policies at all times.
  • Attend training and supervision sessions to maintain and improve care standards and professional development.
Skills and Experience
  • Genuine passion for providing high-quality care and supporting others to live independently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – able to build trust and rapport with Service Users and families.
  • Reliable, compassionate and patient, with a respectful and caring attitude.
  • Ability to follow detailed Care Plans and record information accurately.
  • Good time management and organisational skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to undertake mandatory training and continuous professional development.
  • Understanding of confidentiality, safeguarding and health and safety in a care setting.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends, evenings and bank holidays as required.
Desirable
  • Previous experience in care, support or healthcare setting (home care, residential or hospital).
  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social care.
  • Care certificate.
