The Role

Candidates should take the time to read all the elements of this job advert carefully Please make your application promptly.
When dementia touches someone’s life, it can feel overwhelming and uncertain. The right support at the right time can bring reassurance, clarity and hope. If you are passionate about helping people live well with dementia and ensuring carers feel informed, heard and supported, this is a role where you will truly see the difference you make every day.
As a Dementia Adviser based in North Northumberland, you will be a steady and compassionate presence for people living with dementia and for the family members and friends who care for them. You will offer guidance, understanding and practical advice, helping people hold on to their independence, strengthen their wellbeing and feel more confident about the future. Our approach is deeply person centred.

Every conversation, every plan and every group is shaped around the individual, their story and what matters most to them.

Your role as a Dementia Adviser will include:

- Providing a person-centred and outcomes focused information, advice and support service to people affected by dementia and their carers.
- Identifying people’s needs and the services they may wish to access, give advice about how to live well with dementia and support the improvement of their sense of wellbeing.
- You will be working from home, but you will be spending time in the community completing home visits, promoting our service at events and giving dementia awareness talks to groups.
- You may also run a dementia voice group within North Northumberland.
- The area covered is North Northumberland predominantly, however, we split the County into the 4 areas, North, West, Central and Southeast.
- Travel expenses are only paid for travel within the area specified. Being able to travel independently is an expectation of this role.
- You will work with a variety of other professionals, such as GPs, memory clinic staff and other health and social care services.
- Able and interested in supporting people to maintain their independence, improve their sense of well-being, and help them take more control of their lives through assessment and outcomes.
- Understanding of dementia and the needs of those living with dementia and their carers would be an advantage but if you have had experience supporting with other diagnosis or support requirements this would be taken into consideration.

- Experience with communicating with a wide range of people, adapting your approach to ensure understanding at all levels.
- Able to network effectively and collaborate with other professionals to achieve positive outcomes for people.
- Good IT skills, experience working with databases and virtual meeting software (Teams / Zoom).
- The ability to travel across the local area independently when and often as required.

This is more than a job. It is an opportunity to be part of a community that believes people living with dementia can continue to live well, stay connected and feel valued. If that inspires you, we would love to hear from you.

At Alzheimer’s Society, we’re the UK’s leading dementia charity and the only one to tackle all aspects of dementia by giving help and hope to people living with dementia today and in the future. We give vital support to people facing the most frightening times of their lives, while also funding groundbreaking research and campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be.
We need to ensure the voices around our table better reflect and understand the communities we exist to serve. We strongly encourage individuals to apply who have a disability, impairment or health condition or individuals who identify as Black, Asian or from another minority ethnic background, as these groups are currently under-represented at Alzheimer's Society.
We want everyone we work with, as a colleague, volunteer, supporter, or someone we support, to feel included and that they belong at Alzheimer's Society.
Our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy here along with our internal employee forum and Employee Lived Experience network groups help us promote inclusion…
