Overview

Are you a Registered Nurse looking for a change? A Functional Nurse Assessor role with Exam Works offers a new direction in your healthcare career. We provide thorough and impartial assessments to assist claimants in being awarded the Personal Independence Payment benefit. You will join an established team of health professionals who conduct daily assessments to help the DWP (Department for Work and Pensions) review and make important decisions.

This role moves you away from hands-on patient care while enabling you to use your clinical knowledge to explore conditions and their impact on day-to-day life.

Extensive training is provided to support your transition into this new career. You will begin with a 6-week training period (Mon – Fri, 08:30 – 16:30) conducted both remotely and onsite at our training centres, including eLearning, classroom-based learning, practical work, and mentorship. After the initial period, you will continue to develop your skills with ongoing guidance and support.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out assessments via telephone from home and face-to-face from your closest assessment centre.
  • Use your clinical knowledge to analyse information and supporting evidence.
  • Collate findings into a comprehensive 3,000–4,000 word report, including justification and evidence, to support the DWP in decision-making.
  • Develop gaps in your clinical knowledge by learning about other health conditions.
  • Attend additional training and CPD sessions.
What we need from you
  • One year minimum post-qualification experience as a Nurse, Paramedic, Physiotherapist, or Occupational Therapist.
  • Valid PIN and full registration with your regulatory body (NMC or HCPC) with no conditions or restrictions.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to listen, explore, and be empathetic.
  • Good time management with the ability to work to targets while producing quality reports.
  • A good level of computer literacy and comfortable with typing.
Working hours

We offer both full-time and part-time contracts after the initial full-time 5-week training period. You can choose 3 days (22.5 hours), 4 days (30 hours), or 5 days (37.5 hours), Monday – Friday, 08:30 – 16:30.

What we offer
  • A competitive basic salary
  • A hybrid working model with some days working from home
  • 23 days’ holiday
  • Annual professional registration fee reimbursed and support for revalidation with CPD
  • A paid day out of the office for volunteering or a chosen cause
  • Company pension, bi-annual health screening, private health care
  • Discounts on retail, health and wellbeing, travel, and technology
  • Refer a friend reward scheme
  • Access to Employee Assistance programmes including wills, mortgages, counselling and mental health support
