Full-time - 36.5 hours per week

Join the Ageing Well and Workplace Health Team in Birmingham Public Health and work alongside other practitioners wanting to make a difference.

We have an exciting opportunity for a skilled public health programme officer to join our multi-disciplinary Public Health Division within the largest Local Authority in the country and be involved in work that makes a difference to our most vulnerable citizens.

This is a full-time permanent position, which is part of the Ageing Well and Workplace Health Team within the Public Health Division, Adult Social Care and Health Directorate. We work with a wide range of stakeholders to improve health and wellbeing, including internal directorates, ICB, NHS, academics, the Integrated Care System partners and adult social care. The team you will be joining are engaged in a dynamic and diverse range of work focusing on the statutory service obligated by OHID which is the NHS Health Checks and our commissioned Tier 2 Adult Weight management services.

About Us

The goal of the Ageing Well and Workplace Health Team is to decrease health disparities among adults in Birmingham by aggregating information from multiple sources and stakeholders, commissioning services to prevent adults from contracting avoidable diseases, and offering guidance on maintaining good health by identifying conditions early on and offering behaviour-changing models and advice on maintaining good health so that everyone can live longer and stay healthier.

By compiling evidence of successful interventions and creating creative methods and resources to enhance their health outcomes, we hope to increase awareness of health risks and concerns from an early age in maturity and to increase the visibility of our services to Birmingham's residents.

The Role

In the Ageing Well and Workplace Health team, this position will help the senior programme officer and service lead in contract managing NHS Health Checks and Tier 2 Adult weight management services. In order to improve the services and make sure the providers fulfil contractual obligations like KPIs and financial assistance, you will be organising and collaborating with a variety of partners and stakeholders.

This will entail collaborating across organisational boundaries by applying your expertise in public health, project management, and matrix working. In order to do this, you will be compiling data and evidence related to public health and using it to create action plans, service proposals, and future project ideas that are centred on meeting the health needs of our people.

Skills & Experience

This is an ideal opportunity for somebody who:

  • Has experience of working with a range of stakeholders in supporting Public Health outcomes
  • Understands the role of public health in the inclusion health agenda
  • Has excellent organizational skills and is able to work independently to achieve expected outcomes and deliver quality outputs
  • Has experience of developing, commissioning and coordinating projects
  • Has strong written and verbal communication skills and experience in writing briefings, reports, needs assessments, project specifications and plans
  • Has experience of finance and budget management
  • Has ability to learn, adapt and manage under pressure
