The Out of Hours department is responsible for the provision of high quality Out of Hours General Medical Services across Dumfries and Galloway. The department employs a range of staff including General Practitioners, Advanced Practitioners, Communication Co‑ordinators and Healthcare Support Workers.

This post is 17.44 hours per week and is fixed term for 9 months.

About the role

We are looking for someone to efficiently communicate and co‑ordinate all professional and patient calls received into the Out of Hours Service Hub requiring the attention of a clinician. Calls can be received electronically from NHS
24 or as a direct call from an agreed professional as well as some groups of patients e.g. Palliative/End of Life. You will be responsible for coordinating the deployment of calls to available staff including support staff and duty clinicians.

Bank staff are crucial to supporting the delivery of the service playing a key role working with a multi‑disciplinary team. You should be prepared to cover short notice shifts to cover annual leave, sickness and public holidays.

You will be required to undertake training / shadow shifts for a month (approx. 2 shifts per week) prior to commencing any shift work unsupervised.

The Out of Hours service operates from 8 am to 8 am 365 days working a variety of shifts: 8 am‑4 pm, 4 pm‑midnight and midnight‑8 am. Training will cover all shifts listed with an expectation that once trained you would ensure to keep your skills up by covering all shifts.

Any shifts undertaken in the out of hours period will receive an unsociable hours payment.
