Make a lasting difference to children’s health and well‑being across Wiltshire. Join our dedicated paediatric dietetic team and play a vital role in delivering specialist, community‑based support to children and families who rely on our expertise to thrive. You will provide a high‑quality and responsive paediatric dietetic service for patients referred by GPs, Health Visitors and Children’s Services across the north and west of Wiltshire.

Your work will help shape healthier futures by supporting children with a wide range of nutritional needs. This role can be based at either Wilton Community Hospital or Chippenham Community Hospital, with the flexibility to work from home as part of our hybrid working model. You will also have access to team office bases at both sites, and some on‑site time is encouraged to support learning, development and collaboration with colleagues.

Our team delivers a blend of face‑to‑face clinics and inpatient support across community hospitals and health centres in Chippenham, Wilton, Salisbury, Amesbury, Warminster, Melksham, Trowbridge, Devizes and Savernake. Where possible, we align each clinician’s working locality with their primary base to support manageable travel and work–life balance. You will also contribute to virtual services offered to children and families throughout Wiltshire, ensuring equitable access to dietetic care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safely and effectively manage your own patient caseload.
  • Carry out comprehensive nutritional assessments, including anthropometric measurements, using specialist equipment where needed.
  • Calculate and estimate individual nutritional requirements.
  • Develop safe and appropriate nutritional treatment plans tailored to each patient.
  • Work with patients and families to agree on and implement the recommended dietary treatment.
  • Monitor progress closely and adjust treatment plans as required.
  • Review, discharge, or hand over patients in line with local procedures and clinical pathways.
  • Arrange follow‑up appointments according to service guidelines.
  • Identify, assess, and manage risks involved in clinical decision‑making.
  • Adhere to all departmental, Trust‑wide, and professional guidelines to ensure safe caseload management.
  • Maintain accurate, up‑to‑date patient records in line with national and local standards, including BDA guidance.
  • Critically evaluate new developments in dietetic practice and share relevant insights with colleagues and your line manager.
  • Provide detailed clinical information for legal purposes when required.
  • Communicate sensitive or complex information to patients, sometimes in challenging or emotionally difficult situations.
  • Use strong negotiation and motivational skills to support patients in making sustainable dietary and lifestyle changes.
  • Provide education, guidance, and therapeutic dietary advice, and develop supporting materials to help patients understand and follow treatment plans.
  • Ensure patient understanding by using a range of communication and evaluation techniques, adapting your approach when needed.
  • Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary colleagues at all levels about patients’ nutritional care, even when discussions are challenging.
  • Translate clinical nutritional concepts into practical, accessible guidance for patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
Essential Criteria
  • Current HCPC registration as a Dietitian, with a degree in Dietetics, Human Nutrition, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Membership of the British Dietetic Association (BDA) and its Paediatric Specialist Group.
  • Strong specialist knowledge of paediatric nutrition and evidence‑based dietetic practice across a range of conditions.
  • Post‑registration training in communication and behaviour change, with completed Safeguarding Children training.
