6): £49,948 - £59,065 pa inclusive of 10% RRP
Clinical Coder (Band
5): £40,150 - £48,804 pa inclusive of 10% RRP
Interviews will be held face to face on 01 July 2026 at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, Downs Road, Sutton, SM2 5PT.
We are recruiting either a Specialist ACC (Band
6) or an experienced Clinical Coder (Band
5) working towards ACC qualification. Band 5 coders will receive full internal and external training support, while Band 6 ACCs will benefit from ongoing training and regular feedback to enhance their skills. After induction and training, the successful candidate may work from home for up to 40% of their contracted hours.
This role offers a vast amount of experience in diagnostic coding of very rare cancer types as well as complex surgical procedures and pioneering treatments in various specialties and has developed automated coding in key areas, meaning that clinical coders are able to focus on more complex cases.
You will be enthusiastic, self‑motivated and enjoy working with colleagues at all levels. You will be responsible for accurate day‑to‑day diagnosis and procedure coding using ICD
10 and OPCS4 classifications, ensuring deadlines are met and coded data meets our high standards.

Band 5:
The post holder will serve as the Clinical Coder responsible for day‑to‑day coding of admitted patient activity in assigned clinical units/specialties in order to meet strict deadlines. Responsibilities will include ensuring that clinical coding is accurate, complete and timely, and that the clinical coding conforms to national standards. This role will require great attention to detail and a logical thought process as well as a vast amount of knowledge of anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
Band 6:
The post holder will serve as the Specialist Accredited Clinical Coder responsible for day‑to‑day coding and management of un‑coded activity in assigned clinical units/specialties in order to meet strict deadlines. They will be required to assist the Clinical Coding Service Manager in clinical coding audits, quality assurance and supervision of less experienced coding staff. Responsibilities will include ensuring that clinical coding is accurate, complete and timely, and that the clinical coding conforms to national standards.
This role will require great attention to detail and a logical thought process as well as a vast amount of knowledge of anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.

Person Specification:
- To abstract relevant clinical information from EPR, translate them into ICD
10 and OPCS4 classification codes and input them in a timely manner as per National Standards and local policies using the Trust’s encoder. - To achieve accurate, timely, and consistent clinical coding within set standards and targets.
- To be responsible for monitoring and checking quality of coded data within the assigned clinical units/specialties.
- To abstract relevant clinical information from EPR, translate them into ICD
10 and OPCS4 classification codes and input them in a timely manner as per National Standards and local policies using the Trust’s encoder. - To lead and be fully responsible for the coding function within the assigned clinical units/specialties.
- To assist the Clinical Coding Service Manager to develop, maintain and manage a skilled efficient coding team in order to provide high quality clinical coding service within the Trust.
- Demonstrable clinical coding experience using ICD
10 and OPCS4 classifications (Band 5) - Clinical Coding Standards Course attendance (Band 5)
