Job Description & How to Apply Below

Advancing People, Environment, and Business. Does that statement resonate with you? Do you enjoy working with an engaged team toward a common goal? Do you regularly question the norm and come up with creative solutions to problems? If you’ve answered yes to any of these questions, we might have the perfect role for you!

PGL Environmental Consultants is seeking someone for a dual role:
Hazardous Materials and Health & Safety Consultant to join our team. This is a unique dual role position, combining field based hazardous materials consulting with internal leadership of our Health & Safety (H&S) program.

This role is based out of PGL’s Vancouver office. PGL offers a 37.5-hour work week, with flexible work arrangements including remote work and access to office location as needed.

This position is split approximately 50/50 between hazardous materials consulting and internal H&S coordination. You’ll support a variety of clients projects in the field while also helping maintain and evolve PGL’s internal safety program (supported by our current H&S committee). This role is ideal for someone who enjoys both hands‑on technical work and contributing to broader organizational systems and culture.

Responsibilities

Hazardous Materials Consultant (50%)

  • Conduct hazardous building materials assessments (pre-renovation, pre-demolition, and due diligence)
  • Perform asbestos abatement monitoring (visual inspections and air sampling)
  • Complete indoor air quality, mold, and moisture assessments
  • Support project budgeting, reporting, and documentation
  • Contribute to technical reviews, internal systems, and corporate initiatives

Health & Safety Coordinator (50%)

  • Lead and continuously improve PGL’s Health & Safety program, ensuring regulatory compliance
  • Develop, update, and maintain H&S policies, procedures, and documentation
  • Chair the Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) and support related initiatives
  • Coordinate incident investigations, reporting, audits, and external submissions
  • Oversee training, orientations, inspections, and safety equipment (PPE)
  • Provide day‑to‑day H&S guidance and support to staff and project teams

This role offers the opportunity to grow into project management, including directing field teams, managing client relationships, and leading reporting. As your career progresses, you will take on increased responsibility in both consulting and H&S leadership.

Job Requirements
  • Postsecondary Diploma or Degree (OH&S would be an asset) or extensive direct-related experience in hazardous material management.
  • 1–3 years of consulting experience, including exposure to hazardous materials assessments and remediation monitoring
  • Ability to register as a professional (in‑training) in the Province of BC is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations in British Columbia
  • Experience supporting or participating in H&S programs, audits, or committees (e.g., JHSC) is an asset
  • Ability to contribute to incident investigations, safety reporting, and training coordination
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present technical information clearly
  • Proven ability to manage time, multitask, and work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard business tools
  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to promoting a safe work environment
  • Comfortable working on a variety of job sites, including construction and industrial environments
  • Ability to travel within British Columbia, including occasional remote locations
  • Flexibility to work hours based on project needs
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 25 lbs for short durations
  • Valid driver’s license; access to a personal vehicle is an asset

  • Employee and Owner Profit Share Program
  • Flexible work arrangements and daily work hours
  • Annual Company Retreat

  • Annual training and development budget
  • Salary range $62,000 – $73,000
  • 3 weeks’ vacation and paid sick time
  • Parental leave top‑up program
