Package

R – R OSD per annum (plus benefits)

Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist level mental health care, treatment and rehabilitation to clients of all age groups, including prevention, early detection and promotion of mental health and wellbeing.
  • Develop and implement community-based occupational therapy rehabilitation services for all ages, applying individual sessions, groups, projects and home/work visits.
  • Establish and maintain referral pathways to promote seamless delivery of integrated mental health care services.
  • Conduct mental health awareness, promotion and prevention initiatives, including community projects and support groups.
  • Identify risk through screening, functional assessment and psychosocial programmes, enhancing opportunities for personal and occupational engagement.
  • Build capacity of PHC staff and communities on mental health and substance use related issues.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships and intersect oral collaborations with NGOs, government departments, WBPHCOT, Traditional Health Practitioners, faith organisations and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain up to date and accurate clinical records, daily statistics and write reports.
  • Implement departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ensure continued professional development by keeping abreast of the latest developments in the field.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Appropriate qualification allowing for registration with the HPCSA as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Current registration with the HPCSA as an independent practitioner (proof of current Annual Practice Certificate).
  • Grade 1:
    None after registration as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Grade 2:
    Minimum of 10 years relevant experience after registration.
  • Grade 3:
    Minimum of 20 years relevant experience after registration.
  • Valid (Code B/EB) driver’s licence.
  • Sound knowledge of occupational therapy practice and ethos.
  • Good clinical reasoning and decision‑making skills.
  • Knowledge of scope of practice, ethical codes and relevant health legislation, policies and acts.
  • Good organisation and time‑management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal relations.
  • Basic supervisory skills.
  • Understanding of evidence‑based practice, community mental health and substance abuse rehabilitation services.
  • Computer literate.
  • Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary context.
  • Knowledge of comorbid physical conditions and their impact on function, including mental health.
  • Willingness to occasionally perform duties after hours, e.g. for campaigns.
