Senior Family Support Worker

New Path Youth and Family Services is an accredited children’s mental health agency providing a range of compassionate, innovative and accessible services for children, youth and their families throughout Simcoe County. New Path acknowledges the traditional land of the Anishinaabeg people, including the Odawa, Ojibwe and Pottawatomi Nations.

Purpose of the Position

The Senior Family Support Worker is responsible for providing peer support and system navigation to families of children and youth with mental health concerns. The role also offers administrative leadership and direction to peers and programs in collaboration with the Supervisor.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensure quality client outcomes and fidelity to the Family Services Program.
  • Provides administrative leadership and direction for the Family Engagement Committees and Family Engagement Lead.
  • Assist with the recruitment, orientation, training and support of the Family Engagement Committee and Family Engagement Lead.
  • Ensure that service delivery adheres to professional standards recognized by the related Ministry, Accreditation, Quality Assurance and applicable professional disciplines.
  • Provide direct peer-to-peer support and system navigation service to children, youth and their families.
  • Assist families in developing strategies to communicate and work effectively with service providers (e.g., mental health, education, health, youth justice, child welfare), as well as developing tools, strategies, and resources to build family capacity within the non-clinical role.
  • Develop, implement and monitor individual family care plans.
  • Co-facilitate peer support groups.
  • Provide education groups.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity and commitment to family-centred service and utilize a strengths-based approach.

    Qualifications
  • Diploma or graduate certificate central to the practice of supporting/engaging children, youth and families.
  • Minimum two years lived experience as the primary caregiver of a child/youth who has accessed community-based or other child and youth mental services.
  • Understanding of family engagement best practices.
  • Experience navigating the child and youth mental health system and knowledge of community resources within Simcoe County is preferred.
