We are rapidly expanding and seeking an Accredited Clinical Coder to join our innovative team at an acute hospital within the NHS. This new post is part of a cohesive and established team and welcomes an individual who thrives on change and wants to improve outcomes for patients and staff.

Main duties of the jobThe Clinical Coding Team is responsible for extracting and translating inpatient information using ICD‑10 and OPCS‑4 coding classifications, adhering to national coding standards. Accurate coded data supports Trust income, clinical audit, governance and research.
As an Accredited Clinical Coder, you will interpret complex clinical information from electronic and paper records, make judgments, and maintain accuracy and completeness of your own coding. You will also train and mentor trainees and support less experienced team members. Interaction with clinicians, operational staff and self‑management of workload are essential.
Person Specification EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING- Accredited Clinical Coder (successful pass of National Clinical Coding Qualification).
- Completion of mandatory clinical coding training (refresher, standards updates).
- Degree qualification or equivalent, or experience in clinical coding within an acute hospital setting.
- Significant experience coding inpatient activity across a wide range of specialities in an acute NHS Trust.
- Significant knowledge of ICD 10 and OPCS 4 coding classifications and standards applicable to NHS inpatient activity.
- Experience extracting and analysing complex clinical information from paper and electronic records.
- Solid understanding of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.
- Clear awareness of the importance of clinical coding, its uses and the impact of data issues.
- Understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft applications.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication and cooperation with other staff.
- Ability to meet strict deadlines within defined policies and procedures.
- Self‑motivation and sound judgment in seeking guidance when needed.
- Detailed knowledge of national clinical coding standards and ability to apply them to complex scenarios.
- Mentoring and supporting trainee Clinical Coders.
- Planning, prioritising and managing own workload.
- Reliability, enthusiasm and adaptability to change.
- Team‑working, supporting colleagues to achieve team goals.

Contract and Working PatternPermanent. Full‑time, flexible working with options for home or remote work.
Salary£32,073 to £39,043 a year (Recruitment and Retention Premium included).
